My name is Codin Sebastian Pop, and I’m an illustrator – among other things.
Intrigued by all that is visual – and by some that is audio – I do allot of stuff. Mainly I illustrate – but I also design, do motion work, and direct shorts and music videos.
I create for fun. And sometimes I charge allot of money for that fun.
Also – I have close friends that help me and push me to boldly go where no illustrator has gone before. Closest are Cordos Ramona, Banea Mihai and Cezar Enache – with whom I frequently work or exchange ides.
I invite you to visit the Visual and Audio sections to see, and hear, recent work. The Visual section is often under maintenance as I add or remove images from this online portfolio. I’m an artist, old works tend to bore me.
If your a fellow Romanian, or you speak Romanian, make sure to check the Blog while you’re here for daily bits of creativity served through illustration. You might actually have a good time.
How I work
I work with everything I can – and that’s allot – but I focus mostly on Photoshop and Illustrator. I always work based of a sketch – sometimes even more than a sketch (it’s the way I make sure that the final piece bares my mark, has a profoundly personal feel to it, and stays true to my style) – scan it – trace it – color it using carefully selected colors/gradients.
When that’s over with, I texture via Photoshop to add a bit of extra flavor, detail and life to the illustration. I’m also an adept of using the Dodge/Burn tools to better define values. And that’s that. I don’t use other programs.
When asked to step outside my illustrating comfort zone, I’m able to handle Cinema4D, Zbrush, RealFlow, After Effects, and a bunch of other programs. After all, I’m also a director, editor, vfx artist, and script writer… so I have developed quite a broad range of skills – I simply don’t like using them all the time. And I seldom have to. If I feel the need to use one or the other to better express a concept or idea, I do so while retaining certain key elements that adhere to an established visual aesthetic. So, although there is no immediate glimpse of a certain style – because I hate limiting my reach so I don’t overuse the same process, the same techniques – there is an artistic unity. Usually I am employed to provide remarcable, humorous and intelligent solutions to various visual problems – and I try to make sure that I always have the right tools for the right job.
